GCE A Level

Recognition in India

Edexcel's IGCSE and GCE A level qualifications are recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to the +2 stage qualification of an Indian Board. To pursue a bachelors degree programme at an Indian University, Ii student must have obtained:

  • 5 passes at GCE 0 level/GCSE/IGCSE in grades A, B or C and
  • 2/3 passes at GCE A level

Students who intend to pursue Medical/Engineering degree programmes are required to obtain:

  • 5 passes at GCE 0 level/GCSE/IGCSE in grades A, B or C and
  • Passes in Physics, Chemistry,Biology/Mathematics and English

IGCSE GCE A level
Instructions in simple English designed for students whose first language is not English

Linear qualification. Examination taken
at the end of 2 year study e.g., Class 9 and 10

               

Unitised qualifications. Each subject
is divided into 4 or 6 units

 
Some subjects have course work element
100% externally assessed

100% externally assessed with written
 alternative to Practical examinations

Assessment checks analytical skills and subject knowledge

Positive marking - students are given credit for demonstrating
what they know, understand and can do during assessment rather than be
penalised for what they do not know

Grades are awarded on
a scale of A * to G

Grades are awarded on
a scale of A*to E

Examinations conducted twice a year - in January and June

Student can re-sit a full subject
for grade improvement

Student can re-sit one unit for
